To quickly setup a serial device in Provato, click on the Gateway->Add section. Set the:
  • Gateway ID to be the name of the connection and
  • Type of Gateway to be the "SMS - GSM Cellular Device"
Then click next and specify:
  • COM Port Name - communications device e.g. COM1 (or /dev/ttyS0 for UNIX)
  • COM Port Speed - the baud speed e.g. 19200
  • PIN - the PIN number of the SIM card
  • Phone Number - the phone number of the SIM card
Typical errors are:
  • Device not responding - check the serial port is connected and device powered on. Another handy check is to open the "Start->Programs->Accessories->Communications->HyperTerminal to check connectivity at the speed specified.
Devices supported are:
  • Siemens M20 Terminal
  • Siemens TC35 Terminal
  • Siemens MC35 Terminal
  • Siemens TC45 Terminal
  • (6310 & 6310i for test purposes)
WARNING: This setup should be used for low volume non-telco-grade applications. For higher availability and reliability NCL recommends the use of an SMSC connection.
