How to deliver media content without the need for an MMSC.
Every time an MMS is sent or received, it is transported via a Multimedia Message Service Centre or MMSC. At the time of writing this topic, it is nearly next to impossible to get MMSC access these days. Mobile Network Operators have not opened up MMSC access yet .
An alternative way to deliver media content is via WAP Push, where a hyperlink is sent to the phone, and the phone establishes a GPRS connection back to some web server to collect the content. (In fact this is pretty much how MMS works, except SMIL is used and not WML).
Indeed, and option can be added to the downloaded WML page to post a reply back to the server, giving bi-directional communication between the application and the mobile user.
(NCLs Provato software does exactly this. In fact the interface for sending normal MMS and the interface for sending Media content over WML are exactly the same.)
